Andia Laura Chakava is currently an independent investment professional with over 14 years experience. Is passionate about facilitating both foreign and intra Africa investment in the continent, increasing financial literacy through investor education and promoting gender lens investing. She has been instrumental in the set up of two fund management companies from scratch in Kenya. She is a cofounder and former Managing Director of Alpha Africa Asset Managers, registered in Kenya, Rwanda and Mauritius which engages in fund management and investment advisory activities. Has been the Managing Director of Old Mutual Investment Group (OMIG) responsible for assets under management of USD 1 billion. During her tenure, she set-up collective Investment schemes which steadily grew to become the leading provider in Kenya. She brings great expertise in pioneering investment products in new markets, business unit management, investment strategy formulation and implementation, deal sourcing, capital raising, product development and investor relations. Ms. Chakava is also skilled at stake-holder management, inter-disciplinary team leadership and project management. She was the youngest female Managing director of a non-family business in Kenya in 2008 at age 30 and one of the first female fund managers in the region. Ms. Chakava is currently a non-executive director of East Africa Educational Publishers - the largest indigenous publishing house in Sub Saharan Africa, a non-executive director of Kenya Women Holding the largest microfinance institution in Africa. She was a winner of ‘Most Influential Women in Africa 2014’ –Category Financial Services by CEO Magazine. She is the current Kenya Chapter chair of New Faces New Voices a Pan African Network founded by Graca Machel. Is a graduate of York University in Toronto where she obtained an honours degree in Economics and she has a Master of Business Administration degree with merit from Cass Business School London.
